Privacy Policy
Game of Y, for Android and for the web. Last updated 6 October 2026.
Game of Y has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Playing against the computer, or against a person on the same device, sends nothing anywhere: the whole game, including the neural network you play against, is inside the app or the web page. The one feature that uses the network is Play a friend, and this page says exactly what it sends.
Playing offline
Everything the app needs is inside the download: the board data, the artwork and
the neural network that plays against you. Against the computer it makes no network
requests at all and works with the device offline or in airplane mode. It asks for
no personal data and no device access — no contacts, location, camera,
microphone, storage or identifiers. The app declares Android's INTERNET
permission; it is used only for Play a friend, below.
Play a friend
When you press Play a friend, the game connects to our game server to arrange and relay one game. Two things are sent:
- The name in the Name box. It is shown to your opponent. It is
whatever you typed, up to 24 characters, or a label like
guest-4821if you typed nothing. It is not an account and nothing checks it. - The moves of that game, together with the clock, so that both players see the same board.
The server keeps that game — the two names, the moves and the clocks
— only while the game is being played, and deletes it five minutes
after the game ends. It keeps no history, no record of who played whom,
and no logs of its own. The connection is encrypted (wss://). The
server runs on Cloudflare, which, like any hosting provider, sees the network
connection itself, including your IP address, as part of carrying it.
The invite link you send to a friend names the game and the seat it opens. Anyone who has the link can take that seat. The link stops working when the game is deleted.
What is stored on your device
The game remembers your settings — the board you last played, whether each side is human or the computer, the skill sliders, the clock, the language, and the name you typed for Play a friend. This is kept in local browser storage on your own device. It never leaves the device except as described above, and it is not readable by us. Uninstalling the app, or clearing the site data in your browser, erases it. While an online game is open, the browser tab also holds the key to your seat, so that a reload sits you back down; it is discarded when the tab closes.
The website
The game at yknotlabs.com/gameofy behaves the same way as the app, and uses the same game server for Play a friend. Our web host records ordinary server access logs (IP address, time and which file was requested) as a normal part of serving any website. Those logs are not used to build profiles and are not shared.
Children
The game is suitable for all ages. It has no chat and no profiles; the only thing one player ever sees of another is the name they chose to type.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new date. A change that affected what the app sends would also require a new app release.
